I’ll be honest: Bar Down Brilliance in EA SPORTS FC 26 had me pulling my hair out. Score a goal off the woodwork with a German or French player in any FUT game mode? Sounds simple. In open play, it’s a total lottery. The ball either rattles the post and bounces out, or my striker decides to hit row Z. After a few matches of pure chaos, I stopped praying for a lucky bounce and switched to a repeatable penalty method. That’s when the task went from “no chance” to “done in ten minutes.”

Why This Objective Matters
Bar Down Brilliance is part of the Germany + France objective inside the Journey of Nations: Europe set. I’m chasing the full Europe chain because the final reward is the 97-rated Maradona special item in FC 26. That’s not the only carrot, either: the chain also hands you a special Gerd Müller item. So even if the woodwork requirement makes you groan, it’s worth pushing through.
The exact requirement is simple on paper: score a goal where the ball hits the post or crossbar before crossing the line. The scorer must be German or French. It has to happen in a FUT game mode. Open play is a nightmare for this because you can’t reliably force a post-and-in finish. Penalties, though, remove most of the randomness. That’s the trick I wish I’d known from the start.
The Friendlies Couch Play Setup
The fastest path is Friendlies mode. If you have a second controller, connect it and choose Couch Play so you control both sides. No second controller? Invite a friend and ask them to let you work through attempts without pressure. The goal is unlimited penalty kicks in a low-stakes environment.
Once the match starts, get a penalty in your favor. With Couch Play, just have the second controller’s player commit a foul inside the penalty area. Your opponent cooperating makes this trivial. I usually sprint into the box, shield the ball, then let the second player clatter me. Referee points to the spot, and the real work begins.

The Aiming Technique That Actually Works
This is where the magic happens. The objective is to hit the inside of the post so the ball deflects into the goal rather than out. Here’s the exact approach I use:
-
Select a German or French player with a strong Penalties stat. Higher-rated penalty takers give you a more manageable shooting circle.
-
When lining up the shot, push your left stick fully to either side, 90 degrees left or 90 degrees right. You’re aiming as far toward the post as possible.
-
Watch the shooting circle under the ball. Let it shrink, then stop it just before it disappears completely. You want the circle small but not at its absolute minimum. That translates to a shot that’s slightly off-center but not wildly wide.
-
Shoot with normal power.
The combination of extreme left/right aim and a nearly-closed circle sends the ball into the inside of the post. When it catches the post at the right angle, it deflects into the net. Not every attempt will go in, but this method makes it repeatable rather than random. I’ve seen the ball fly wide, hit the post and bounce out, and occasionally clip the outside of the post. That’s expected. Reset, get another penalty using the same method, and try again.

A player with a Penalties rating of 85 or above keeps the shooting circle much more stable. That gives you tighter control over where the circle stops. Pick the best penalty taker in your squad who qualifies as German or French. Most players I know complete this within 5 to 10 penalty attempts once the aiming technique clicks.
Squad Requirements and Common Mistakes
You need either a German or French player in your squad. The nationality matters, not the league or club. Any FUT game mode counts, so if you already have a high-rated German or French card in your team, you’re set. Prioritize whoever has the best Penalties stat among your qualifying players.
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Nationality | German or French |
| Game mode | Any FUT game mode |
| Scoring method | Ball must hit post or crossbar before going in |
| Best setup | Friendlies Couch Play, penalty kicks |
| Recommended Penalties stat | 85+ |
One important note: the player taking the penalty must be German or French. Assists and other contributions from non-qualifying players do not affect this requirement because it’s specifically about who scores. Don’t overcomplicate it by trying to force a specific league or club link. If the card says Germany or France, you’re good.
What to Do After You Clear It
Bar Down Brilliance is one of the harder tasks in the Germany + France objective, but it’s far from the only one standing between you and the 97-rated Maradona. Once you clear this, work through the remaining Europe objectives systematically. If you’re also grinding other objective chains in parallel, the South America branch has its own completion guide, and players building around SBCs should keep an eye on pack rewards while chasing objective cards. That kind of efficiency keeps your club competitive throughout the season.
For me, the biggest lesson was simple: stop trying to create a woodwork goal in open play. It’s a mug’s game. Use Friendlies, use penalties, aim for the inside of the post, and let the rebound gods do the rest. It might take a handful of tries, but once the technique clicks, you’ll bang them in. Good luck, and may your post shots always bounce in. ⚽️🔥
